From Workshop to Frontline: The Story of Kostyantyn Kuchuryan

In peacetime, he crafted beauty from wood. Now, his hands skillfully deliver aid where it’s most needed—on the frontline and in frontline cities of Ukraine. Today, we want to share the story of Kostyantyn Kuchuryan—a father of three, entrepreneur, and volunteer with the charitable foundation “Arms of Mercy.”

Roots and Wings

Kostyantyn embodies deep roots and wide wings. Born into a family of believers, he represents the third generation of Christians. Growing up in a large family with seven children, he learned to value work, responsibility, and caring for others.

“I’m not someone who immediately found his calling,” Kostyantyn shares. “I had to overcome obstacles, learn to communicate, and find my place.”

One such obstacle was language. With Romanian roots on his grandfather’s side, he spoke Romanian from a young age. When he moved to Chernivtsi, he struggled to speak Ukrainian fluently. “People thought I was very reserved and didn’t want to communicate. In reality, I just couldn’t find the words,” he recalls with a smile.

But challenges only strengthened his character. Today, Kostyantyn is a successful entrepreneur, founder of the KMaster_wood workshop, where wooden products are crafted, a leader of the music ministry at the “Emmanuel” church, and a coordinator of volunteer aid with the charitable foundation “Arms of Mercy.”

He is also a loving husband and father of three children—two sons and a daughter born during the war.

When Life Changes in a Day

The morning of February 24, 2022, changed the lives of millions of Ukrainians. Kostyantyn was no exception, quickly shifting from entrepreneurship to volunteering.

“I went to bed late because I worked until two in the morning. I woke up around eight, turned on my phone—and everything was red. Rockets, planes… My first thought was about my family and how my father had warned me to stock up on food in case of war, but I didn’t listen,” Kostyantyn recalls.

Initially, like most Ukrainians, he thought about his family’s safety—planning to go abroad and trying to stock up on essentials. But after hearing from his brother about the situation at the border, where women with children stood for hours without water or food, Kostyantyn decided to help.

That evening, he gathered a team of young people from the church, took everything necessary for assistance, and reached the customs office through the fields. Thus began his volunteer journey.

Thanks to his knowledge of Romanian, he quickly established contacts with Romanian volunteers already bringing aid to the border.

From Border to Frontline

Over three years of volunteer work, Kostyantyn progressed from distributing tea at the border to delivering humanitarian aid to the hottest spots in Ukraine. Today, he not only coordinates the supply of food and medicine to frontline cities but also helps bakeries provide bread to local populations and supports families of fallen soldiers.

A dangerous experience occurred in Kherson, where, during aid distribution in the Antonivskyi district, the team came under shelling. One of the shells fell just 15 meters from the volunteers.

Despite all trials and dangers, Kostyantyn continues his mission. He believes his calling is to be where help is most needed.

“It’s very inspiring that we are part of the Church, part of the great work being done in Ukraine,” says Kostyantyn. “We believe this will end someday, and when peace comes, we can say we didn’t stand aside but did everything we could.”
