An important meeting took place at the VILNI Day Center in Kyiv — a dialogue between those in need of support and those able to provide it. On April 24, 2025, parents of children with disabilities, military families, and internally displaced persons met with government representatives and our partners from World Vision.
This meeting became possible thanks to the joint efforts of the Arms of Mercy Charitable Foundation and the international organization World Vision. Our mission remains unchanged: to support those who need it most, especially in these challenging times of war.

Spaces Where Children Are Heard and Understood
The main topic of conversation was Child-Friendly Spaces — special places where every child feels safe. Parents explained why these spaces have become so important for their families:
“Here, my child is not afraid to be himself,” shared one mother. “For the first time in a long while, I see my son smile and happily go to activities.”
What makes these spaces unique is not only the individual approach to every child but also the creation of a true atmosphere of safety — both physical and emotional. Here, children learn something new each time, develop communication skills, learn to accept differences, and most importantly, experience a safe and happy childhood.

When Authorities Listen with Their Hearts
What was especially valuable is that government representatives were not merely present — they genuinely listened. They heard about the needs of families and the challenges faced by children with disabilities and military families in the process of socialization.
“We need more time for activities,” parents emphasized. “Eight sessions are not enough for a child to truly adapt and open up.”
Parents also asked to extend the schedule to include weekends and after-work hours so that more families could access these services.
Working Together for a Better Future
The meeting resulted in concrete decisions and plans:
- Developing a model to include Child-Friendly Spaces in the list of social services;
- Exploring opportunities for state budget funding;
- Expanding the program for teenagers;
- Organizing day camps and excursions.
“The children asked for more museum visits and excursions,” said meeting facilitator Olena Matviichuk. “We will definitely take these wishes into account.”
Hope for Tomorrow
The outcome was a shared understanding: when parents, authorities, and civil society organizations unite for the sake of children, anything is possible. Every parent’s story, every idea from officials, and every proposal from partners is a step toward giving our children a brighter future.
We thank all participants of the meeting. Through unity and mutual support, we will continue working to ensure that every family’s voice is heard and every child’s needs are met.
